Our Aims

Our aim is to promote quality of life. The wishes and expectations of each individual with learning disabilities and/or mental health problems always have first consideration. At the same time, the service users of Prestwood Residential Homes have access to high quality, value for money social care services appropriate to their needs, and that service users and their carers or representatives are fully involved in the decisions which affect their lives.

We base our philosophy on working towards success whilst accepting the need to be flexible. A non-aversive, inter-actional approach is used, with the emphasis on building positive relationships. service users are not judged by their behaviours, but are encouraged to develop self-esteem. Negative sanctions are not used.

In this way we can fulfil our aim of enabling our service users to overcome the difficulties that have caused them to lose their place in society, and to attain the highest level of functioning they are capable of.

This means that the service users right to an ordinary life is upheld at all times. All service users have the rights of privacy and dignity and are provided with a key for their personal rooms so that they may secure them while out. If a resident is in their room they may lock the door from within and staff are instructed that they must always knock and wait to be invited in by the resident before entering. Service users are also provided with a lockable cash box to secure any money or small valuables. All bathrooms and toilets within Prestwood are fitted with a lock, which may be secured from within for the resident’s privacy.
