About us

History

Prestwood Homes is part of the CareTech Group, who have homes nationwide. Their head office is in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire. Prestwood was founded in 1997. We endeavoured to offer a service unlike any other available to our clients, ensuring they could live their lives to the fullest. This successful model has ensured the continued growth and prosperity of Prestwood for over a decade.

CareTech acquired Prestwood in July 2010. Together with the CareTech family we continue to grow Prestwood Services on the North Wales Coast and in the North West, working together with commissioners to provide the best services in the country.

Our aims

Our aim in residential care is to promote quality of life. The wishes and expectations of each individual with learning disabilities or mental health problems always have first consideration. At the same time, the service users of Prestwood have access to high quality, value-for-money social care services appropriate to their needs, and service users and their carers or representatives are fully involved in the decisions which affect their lives.

We base our philosophy on working towards success whilst accepting the need to be flexible. A non-aversive, interactional approach is used, with the emphasis on building positive relationships. Service users are not judged by their behaviours, but are encouraged to develop self-esteem.

In this way we can fulfil our aim of enabling our service users to overcome the difficulties that have caused them to lose their place in society, and to attain the highest level of functioning they are capable of. This means that the service users right to an ordinary life is upheld at all times. All service users have the rights of privacy and dignity.

Training

All the service users are supported to live their lives as independently as possible and are supported to carry out their activities of daily living by an experienced staff team. The service users are taught through active support to learn new skills to increase their own abilities. In addition, three of the service users at Trinity Avenue attend work placements several times weekly.
